
Dr. Michael A. Fischer has extensive experience as a teacher
having served as Lecturer of Music in tuba and euphonium at Baylor
University and Director of Bands in the Nebraska City Public
Schools. Dr. Fischer currently serves as Assistant Professor of
Music in tuba and music education at Boise State University where
he serves on the music education and theory faculty, teaches
applied tuba lessons, directs the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, and
performs with the BSU Faculty Brass Quintet. Dr. Fischer received
the DMA degree in tuba performance from the University of North
Texas, MM degree in tuba performance from the University of
Nebraska at Omaha, MS degree in music education from the University
of Illinois and a BM degree in music education from Pittsburg
(Kansas) State University. He has performed with various
professional artists including Luciano Pavarotti, Doc Severson, Ray
Charles, Henry Mancini, Manhattan Transfer, Melissa Manchester,
Peter Nero, and Brian Wilson. Dr. Fischer has performed with the
San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth/Dallas Ballet Orchestra,
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Wind Symphony, Waco Symphony
Orchestra, Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, San Angelo Symphony,
Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, Omaha Symphony and Keith Brion's New
Sousa Band. Dr. Fischer taught at the Interlochen Arts Academy for
the University of Michigan All-State Program for several summers
and now performs as principal tuba with both the Boise Philharmonic
and the New Hampshire Music Festival orchestras. Dr. Fischer serves
as Associate Editor of Pedagogy for the International
Tuba-Euphonium Association's professional journal (ITEA Journal)
and its companion on-line website. Dr. Fischer recently was invited
to serve on the Directors for "The Harvey Phillips
Northwest Big Brass Bash." He is published in the Tuba Source Book
as a contributing author on bibliographic and reference sources for
the tuba. Dr. Fischer founded the Boise State University
Octubafest, Marchfest and Mayfest series, BSU Northwest
Tuba-Euphonium Symposium, Baylor Octubafest, Waco TUBACHRISTMAS,
and the Baylor "TUBA DAY." Dr. Fischer presents clinics and master
classes throughout the United States and at state, regional and
national conventions including the Kansas Bandmasters Association,
Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association
and the "Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic." He will
present a tuba clinic for band directors at the MENC Northwest
Division Conference in February 2003. He is an arranger of music
and has works published through Tuba-Euphonium Press and Roncorp
